Join Cody and the penguin gang for serious surfing action at the Pen Gu islands in this surfing game for Xbox 360 and Wii! Here’s our review.

Penguins and surfing, a natural combination! The animated Surf's Up movie from Sony hit the waves on the weekend and the video game from Ubisoft is here too. It puts you in control of the surfin' penguins (and Chicken Joe!) from the flick as you bust out some serious moves at Pen Gu Island with the Reggie Belafonte Big Z Memorial Surf Off. Get the facts on this game with Gary's game review.

Surfing Penguins?!?

The Surf's Up game lets you hit the waves with all the penguin surfers from the movie pulling tricks for points as you surf through courses full of obstacles, jumps and [KWLINK ]rails to grind[/KWLINK]. Tricks also fill up a speed boost bar and, if you max it out, you can hit Stoke mode for extra air and more points for your tricks! You can also surf through some multiplayer and bomb down a track on a leaf in Leaf Slide mode.

Wild Waves and Smooth Moves!

The rockin' soundtrack is the best part of this game! It has awesome bands blasting out some solid surfing tunes as you're playing. It's also super simple to pull tricks, so anybody can jump in and play this game. Each level unlocks more stuff to play with too - new surfboards, new designs for stylin' your surfboard and extra characters (even the legendary Z)!

Crash and Burn!

It might take you longer to beat this game than to watch the Surf's Up movie, but maybe not. If you have crazy skills you'll be finished this game in less than two hours! What's worse is that then you'll run out of multiplayer modes in about another hour. Ick...

Champ or Chum?

The penguins are cute (and Chicken Joe rocks!), the surfing is cool and the music is sweet. Unfortunately the game is so small you could fit it on a cracker. There's a magic word for games like this - do you know what it is? Rental.

Thumbs Up:

  • Wicked tunes!
  • Easy to pull tricks.
  • Thumbs Down:

  • Way too short!
  • Needs more multiplayer modes.
  • Game Rating: 3

Available for: PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii.
