The shattered glass on my dirty feet
I look at the world around me
What has happened and where are we going
What are we meant to be?

Would people from past times
Look back and be proud
Or would disappointment fill their eyes with
the crimes, the cliques, the crowds?

What happened to dignity
Pride and modesty
What happened to peace,
love, and honesty?

We used to have war heroes
Mamas who cared for us
Stayed at home and homeschooled
Every child.

A fever broke out
No medicine to cure
So mama laid bedside
All through the night

Now we have people who kill, steal, and burn
Why can't we look back to the old times and learn?
