I'm not sure about murder specifically, but in general, global violent crime rates have actually gone down for the past hundred or so years. It seems that there actually was more murder in the past, despite there being harsher laws, and despite there being less people overall.  I understand, and this isn't an action to debate, but are you getting this as a statistic? Because, well, we have had two world wars and countless other encounters in the past 100 years. Does the murder rate apply to murder in general? Convictions? War?

Kaori stared intensely as they announced the unveiling, leaning further towards it and almost falling. Satoki held her steady and sighed, indicating this was stupid. He was a little curious, however. The pair watched as the young boy walked up to it, following his every move. Their eyes flickered back to the machine as the curtain was drawn and- What in the blazes is that? Satoki was trying to hold in his chuckles, covering his mouth and gasping for air. But Kaori's face had dropped and she just stared at it, her eyebrows knitting together in confusion. "Are they serious?" he said while laughing, coughing into his hand to cover it up. "They can't sell that! It's a piece of junk!" "Well, m-maybe it does work! I mean, it's got wires and stuff attached to it, and..." Yeah, she doubted it too.
