1. Super Monkey Ball Deluxe
Super Monkey Ball has lots of things kids will like. Cute little monkeys rolling around in balls. Bright, colorful graphics. And simple controls. Some of the puzzles can get pretty tricky, but the sheer amount of levels and minigames make up for it because kids can just move on to something else if they get stuck.
2. Sonic Mega Collection Plus
Starting kids out on the same types of games we played as children is a great way to build their skills before moving on to other games. Sonic Mega Collection is a compilation of all of the best Sonic the Hedgehog games from a number of different genres (platforming, puzzle, pinball) and packs simple gameplay with fun characters and graphics that kids (and adults) will definitely appreciate.
3. Tony Hawk Series
The Tony Hawk games are great for kids because they are relatively easy to pick up and play and are simply fun to goof around in. You don’t have to get a high score or complete objectives to have fun. It also lets kids play as the same skaters they see every year at the X Games which is pretty darn cool.
4. Blinx 2: Masters of Time and Space
Blinx 2 is a great example of how to build a kids game from the ground up. Great characters and fun graphics along with easy to learn controls make this platformer great for kids. The difficulty is also perfectly balanced so kids will be challenged but won’t get frustrated.
5. Grabbed by the Ghoulies
Another great kids game is Grabbed by the Ghoulies. It was a bit of a disappointment for Rare fans, but that was only because it was marketed as a game for everyone when it was really intended for kids. The game is a spooky and fun action game filled with all sorts of Halloween-type stuff that kids will love. It is easy to pick up and play and you can adjust the difficulty on the fly when things get too tough.
6. Lego Star Wars
Lego Star Wars pairs up cute Lego characters with the Star Wars universe to create one of the coolest and most fun games around for both kids and adults. Simple gameplay and easy controls are the highlights of this from a “kid game” point of view, but the overall package is just really well put together and a great way to share the Star Wars experience with your kids.
7. Harry Potter Series
The Harry Potter games are obviously great for kids because they allow kids to relive all of the great scenes play as the characters from the books and movies they love. The gameplay and difficulty aren’t always created with kids in mind, but the beauty of these games is that if they have seen the movies or read the books kids should be able to figure things out.
8. Spongebob Squarepants: The Movie
A Spongebob Squarepants game isn’t on this list simply because it is a game based on a cartoon, it is on this list because it is also pretty darn good for both kids and adults alike. Fun platformer gameplay with great graphics and the characters we all know and love is a good combo.
9. Sports Games - NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL
Sports games are great for kids because they allow them to take the reigns of their favorite teams and players and get a feel for professional sports. All sports games have adjustable difficulty levels and rules so that you can set them up for any skill level. Madden, NHL2k6, MVP 2005, NBA Street V3, Winning Eleven 8 – all of these are great games to play with your kids.
10. Sid Meier's Pirates!
Pirates! is a great choice for a kids game because it plays exactly like having toy ships in the bath tub. You can sail all over the place and have battles at sea and everything is very simple and easy to control. There is some violence, but it is presented in a very light hearted and cartoony way that shouldn’t offend. Kids just might learn a little history and geography along the way, which is also a plus.
DON'T TRY TO BE SOMEONE ELSE, BECAUSE EVERYONE IS ALREAY TAKEN.
