Yes. they are. they both take a high amount of hard work, dedication and strict dieting. In the case of cheerleading many moves actually risk serious injury and death with little -no saftey equiptment.

I'm trying really hard not to explode with some of these posts. First of all, many believe that there are so many injuries in cheerleading because of not properly trained coaches and not careful cheerleaders. I, for one, kind of believe it.  Two, if were going all technical, cheerleading isn't officially a sport. It was voted not a sport last year, I believe, by some court of law. I think that cheerleaders are athletes, most absolutely, because they train harder than some athletes from official sports, no question. Three, DANCING IS A SPORT. Dancers train hard, starving themselves, staying up late practicing dance routines, getting brutal injuries, killing their limbs from too much acrobatics. I could go on, but I don't feel I need too. And it's OFFICIALLY a sport, so saying it's not, is plain stupid. Kudos to all dancers out there.

yes! because u have to train hard and put as much as u heart into any other sport

If either of them are sports, dancing is one you do more exercising in and can be included as a group activity or you can do it by yourself. However, cheer leading is more competitive, but depending on what you are doing in the routine, it might not take much effort. I really don't think of them as sports, but more of group/self activities

Your precisely right...BUT there is competitive dancing and competitive cheerleading, where cheerleaders compete in a team and dancers compete with a company. See, you can't do competitive dancing by yourself, you need to be in a company, that represents you and you sign a contract with such and such rules.
