I've read the bible once.

I'm being total honest here; they suggested doing it, and I did it.

However, I did not find myself enlightened by the biblical text. Instead, it was the complete opposite.

The bible was one of the major factors that actually made me an atheist. The whole book is full of controversial stuff that people just want to ignore (selling a daughter as a slave is okay, rocking other people is okay, and oh yeah, don't wear wool - it's a bad sin you know).

Bible quotations are usually just cherry picking cheapness from who knows where. There's actually pretty good stuff written into it, but due to the varying versions I encounter I struggle to get it all in one piece. It's a man made book of many scriptures which other people chose to be good into it.

I call dog dope over this thing. Don't follow the bible, follow the good people.
