Politics and Religion
From the Bible.
came forward and put this question to Jesus, saying,
"Teacher, Moses wrote for us,
If someone's brother dies leaving a wife but no child,
his brother must take the wife
and raise up descendants for his brother.
Now there were seven brothers;
the first married a woman but died childless.
Then the second and the third married her,
and likewise all the seven died childless.
Finally the woman also died.
Now at the resurrection whose wife will that woman be?
For all seven had been married to her."
Jesus said to them,
"The children of this age marry and remarry;
but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age
and to the resurrection of the dead
neither marry nor are given in marriage.
They can no longer die,
for they are like angels;
and they are the children of God
because they are the ones who will rise.
That the dead will rise
even Moses made known in the passage about the bush,
when he called 'Lord'
the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;
and he is not God of the dead, but of the living,
for to him all are alive."
Some of the scribes said in reply,
"Teacher, you have answered well."
And they no longer dared to ask him anything.
"They found a man that gathered sticks upon the Sabbath day. And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall surely be put to death, all the congregation shall stone him with stones,... And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses"
I mean geez, what was that man thinking, picking up sticks like that?
"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free."

"As for God, his way is perfect:
The Lord’s word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him."
"The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple."
"But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another."
The foul realism is unleashed
Upon the Earth we'll bleed
The kindness of deaths grasp
Relieves us from the pain

KEY VERSE: "The days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down" (v 6).
READING: Luke wrote his gospel after the destruction of Jerusalem and its Temple by the Romans in 70 CE. The Temple was the center of Jewish religious life, and they believed that as long as it stood they were secure. In the manner ofJeremiah, Jesus warned against putting faith in an earthly edifice (Jer 7:4-7).########### the people who were admiring the magnificent Temple that one day it would be reduced to rubble. Many believed that the destruction of the Temple would be a sign portending the end of the age. Jesus' disciples must not be misled by this false teaching, nor by those who pointed to wars and cosmic signs as proof that the final age had come. Jesus' followers were not to fear the endof time, but were to put their faith and trust in the one who has dominion over all time.
REFLECTING: Do I stand firm in faith despite the world's upheavals?
PRAYING: Lord Jesus, give me confidence in God's plan in these stress-filled times.
don't discipline me in the heat of your fury.
Be gracious to me, ADONAI,
because I am withering away;
heal me, ADONAI,
because my bones are shakingh;
I am completely terrified;
and you, ADONAI - how long?
Come back, ADONAI, and rescue me!
Save me for the sake of your grace;
for in death, no one remembers you;
in Sh'ol, who will praise you?
