I've seen a lot of theories online, but the most plausible-sounding one is legal problems with their record label.
They've been having issues in the past with their name, etc. It might just be a huge legal thing. That would explain why none of the band members have said anything useful, for fear of getting sued,  why the original breaking-up-letter-thing on the site was so cold-hearted and vague. It was probably written by their manager/s.
It would also explain why Lyn-Z was the only one who could say anything helpful.

Hopefully they'll sort it all out and come back. But, as long as they're happy, I'm happy, I suppose. It's always great to see Frankie doing things with Leathermouth and Death Spells. Gee's work with Grant Morrison has been awesome, and we're all looking out for Ray and Mikey.

What I hate is when people stop listening to their music because they've broken up. Just because there isn't anything new coming from them, collaboratively, doesn't mean that we can't enjoy the music they did create.

But, the MCRmy will be ready and waiting for the day that they come back, if they ever do.
We'll keep on bringing the bullets.
We'll keep on seeking for revenge.
We will march in the Black Parade, and keep on living in the Danger Days.

Keep running, Killjoys.

Let me just say that out of all the "emo" bands, MCR WAS THE MOST AWESOME.

I'll elaborate more...

MCR wasn't your stereotypical "emo", they didn't scream, they didn't have the typical "emo" sound, and Gerard's vocals were more Billy Corgan-esque than a high-pitched typical emo singing voice.  Also, MCR was artsier and actually had complex concept albums, they took influences from Glam Rock and Hardcore Punk bands.  I actually prefer the garage rock-synthy-pop-punk sound of Danger Days to the polished gothic sound of The Black Parade.

MCR wasn't even emo, IMO.  They were like '90s alt. rock and classic emo.

I'm pretty sure the break-up was genuine, there probably isn't a conspiracy.

Also, I'm excited to hear Ray and Voltaire's collab.

Also, this is the third MCR thread I've seen.   Asleep

Apparently, MCR doesn't like to be called emo.

Then what do we call them then?  Post-hardcore-punk-pop-alt-glam-garage-rock-revivial-synth-whatever?

Also, I think they only played one Warped Tour concert (I think '04 or '05).  Even then they were mocked by Guttermouth.
