MCR wasn't your stereotypical "emo", they didn't scream, they didn't have the typical "emo" sound, and Gerard's vocals were more Billy Corgan-esque than a high-pitched typical emo singing voice. Also, MCR was artsier and actually had complex concept albums, they took influences from Glam Rock and Hardcore Punk bands. I actually prefer the garage rock-synthy-pop-punk sound of Danger Days to the polished gothic sound of The Black Parade.
MCR wasn't even emo, IMO. They were like '90s alt. rock and classic emo.
I'm pretty sure the break-up was genuine, there probably isn't a conspiracy.
Also, I'm excited to hear Ray and Voltaire's collab.
