If you ever get a pet, you should get a cat or a pet rat. Rats are wonderful pets, they just have a bad reputation. Rats can even learn tricks, like how to play basketball, no joke google it if ya want. Rats also are VERY affectionate, unlike hamsters or gerbils or mice, rats come right to the cage opening to greet you. They can respond to their name after a while having them. Their life span is 4 years i think. I currently have two female hairless rats. Also domestic rats in general do NOT carry diseases. Cats are also very kewl animals, their funny, fluffy, and friendly, well most of them are friendly. You can leave a cat for a week and it wont get into the garbage or anything. You just leave A LOT of food and water, a fresh litter box. I recommend you get a cat babysitter if you would leave but if it would come to you cant find a babysitter for cats, they should be fine. Dogs are a lot of work i find, they need to be litter trained, they chew alot, they get into the garbage, etc.. But dogs are still awsome pets, they just require alot of time
