"Why are you so bothered, anyway? You gonn miss him?" Crystal Was lying at the end of my bed texting. I threw a pillow at her.
"It's not that he's going away. It's that he didn't tell me sooner is what bothers me." I sat and picked at my quilt.
"Whatever, it is, we need to get ready for the party, OK?"
I sighed. "Okay." I got up and opened my closet turned wardrobe on the far side of the room. I grabbed the shopping bag that sat on the bottom shelf. I took out the gorgeous, red wine, knee length dress and lay it out on my bed.
"Whoa! Your shoes are the exact same colour as the dress!" Crystal stared in awe. I gave her a look that said 'You only just got that?'. She pulled a face at me, before taking out her own clothes from a gym bag she'd brought over after school.
Ten minutes later and I was pulling on my first shoe when I heard a knock on the door. I ran downstairs barefoot, expecting it to be my mom, who normally got back around that time.
I opened the door to find Zakk stood at my porch. He gave a nervous smile. "Can I come in?"
"Er, yeah." I opened the door fully and gestured for him to come in. "Just wait here, though. I'll be one sec." I ran up the stairs, tripping on the top stair. I felt his gaze on my back, remembering that my dress was only half zipped up. My cheeks burned and I got up and ran-more speed walked-to my room.
"Your mom?" Crystal was ready by now, lay on my bed again, phone in hand.
"No, Zakk." I jumped on the bed and put on my other shoe, then stood up. "Zip this up, will you?" I asked, as I couldn't reach it myself. She got up and pulled the zip, but I could tell she was struggling.
"Stuck." she slapped her hands down on her thighs after trying a couple of times. I sighed. "Great." I wondered what to do for a sec.
"Zakk!" Crystal shouted down the stairs.
"Yeah?" I could hear his shoes on the tiled floor of the entrance.
"Come up here for a sec!" Crystal never was one for being quiet. Zakk walked up the stairs and walked into the room, but not before knocking, even though Crystal had told him to come up.
"What's up?" His hands were in the pockets of his jeans. He was wearing a loose white t-shirt and a black leather jacket, with a baseball cap and Hi tops.
"Yeah, uh, my zip's stuck. Little help?"
He walked up behind me and tugged at the zip. After a sec, he pulled it up. He put his hands on my shoulders and spun me around. "There you go."
"Thanks." I smiled.
"You look really great." He told me, avoiding what he knew I was going to ask, sooner or later. I didn't want to start an argument or anything, and just wanted to enjoy the party, so I avoided it too.
"Zakk, you know at school? What did you-" I glared at Crystal, knowing she loved a fight. "Doesn't matter," She grinned innocently.
"Could you give me five minutes to get my makeup done, please?" I tried to sound as nice as possible.
"Yeah, I'll wait in the living room?" He left my room and gently closed the door.
"Do you want to get kicked?" I snapped at her once Zakk was out of earshot.
"Sorry!" She laughed under her breath.
"This isn't funny." I told her.
When we were ready, we left the house and Zakk pulled his car into the drive.
"Ready?" He called over, his arm hanging out of the driver's window. I jumped in beside him.
"Let's go to a party!" I laughed, feeling quite light hearted on the subject by now. Crystal whooped from the back seat. Zakk did the same, and we headed to the party.

You know what "Normal" is? A setting on a washing machine. No one wants to be that.
