Chapter 1, Part 3

The pale January sunlight hit her slightly cracked open eyes. She sat up slowly and was shocked albeit relieved to find herself in her junkyard of a bedroom. She threw off her covers and glanced at her bedside clock. 7:01 AM.
'Great...I have twenty minutes left until the bus comes.'
She rolled off her bed and peeled her nightclothes off her and threw them onto a chair in a crumpled heap. Her uniform was in the same, pitiful condition as her pyjamas. She quickly dressed herself in it, making a few attempts to smooth out the creases in her skirt. Tying her shoe laces - and in the process getting her fingers stuck in the knot -
she dashed out of the front door and ran as fast as her legs would carry her to the nearest bus stop. Panting, she sank into one of the seats and drew in lungfuls of air.
