Thirteen-year-old Saya was listening to her radio at the lake, the only place where she could get away from her parents. Saya looked up at the sky, it was getting late so she headed home. Not to her surprise, her parents were fighting over money issues. Her little seven-year-old brother came over to give her a hug. "Hey Buddy, how are you doin?" Saya said. Now most sisters can't stand they're little brothers, but Saya loved her little brother. "Mommy and daddy are being mean again" said her little brother. "I know Buddy, when are they not?" "After supper I need to tell you something okay?" "Okay."

The dinner table was silent as usual, potatoe soup was for dinner tonight. As soon as supper was over Buddy nodged Saya in the stomach "tell me!" "Not now, I'll tell you when mom and dad are asleep." It was 11:45 pm when Saya came to wake up Buddy. "Buddy, Buddy!" Saya said quitely. "What?" Buddy said rubbing his eyes. "Buddy I'm gonna leave right now I have $150 saved up and I'm going to Jake's house." "What? Why are you leaving and are you going to live with Jake? What will mommy and daddy say?"

"I'm leaving because mommy and daddy are not very nice to us, and no I'm not going to live with Jake just for tonight I'm going to make my way across the state to grandma...are you coming?" Tears filled Buddy's eyes, and then he looked over at his parents room. "I'm scared, I don't want to go." "Wouldn't you rather live with grandma then mom and dad? You love grandma right?" Saya said. "I do but she lives far away. and I don't want to go alone."
