Well, both really. It can be a good solution for the real serious criminals who refuse to stop whatever they're doing. But there will always be a possibility they're innocent, and that's when it all goes wrong. You can't undo the death penalty.
We could stop them by putting them in jail for life.
I guess it just depends what country you're in. and it does cost money to have people in jail.
Most of the people in jail are there for drug charges; if we released those people we'd have plenty of room for the people that are actually hurting others.

Being an atheist and believing that their is no after-life, I disagree with that. Besides, wouldn't they still be in jail for life?
well...yeah but what if they murdered someone
Why not give them a life sentence then?

Last year I wrote a 10 page paper on Capital Punishment and got an A on it. I'm for it and I can put up a great argument.

The death penalty costs more than a person in jail for life, actually. It's extremely expensive, and irreversible.

Here's afew. 1. It costs money to put those criminals in jail for life. Do you want to know who pays for this? The tax payers. I think I'd want that money going somewhere else other than to feed a murderer. 2. If you put a person in prision or jail, there is always a chance they can escape and commit the crime again. And yes, it happens alot more than you may think. If a murderer escaped out of prison and he committed a 2nd act of homicide, wouldn't you be upset that he wasn't put to death? It has happened before. 3. If the death penalty was strictly enforced, crime rates everywhere would go down. If criminals had something to fear when they were about to commit a serious crime, they'd think twice. In Singapore, where they strictly enforce the death penalty, crime rates are substatially lower than anywhere in the U.S. I could go alot more in-depth with detail and I could throw alot of statistics in there. The death penalty definately has it's cons, and there is no denying that. But I think the pros out weigh the cons. Yes, I do realize someone innocent could be killed. Yes, I do realize it can be harsh. yes, I do realize some people consider the death penalty murder.

"Prisons cost taxpayers more than $32 billion a year. Every year that an inmate spends in prison costs $22,000. An individual sentenced to five years for a $300 theft costs the public more than $100,000. The cost of a life term averages $1.5 million. States are spending more money on prisons than education. Over the course of the last 20 years, the amount of money spent on prisons was increased by 570% while that spent on elementary and secondary education was increased by only 33%. " I have a source but I can't post it on this site.

The Death Penalty is in a way fair as long as they are 100% sure the person commited the crime.

Proof: If only California replaced the death penalty with permanent imprisonment, they could save a billion dollars in five years. Also, taxpayers pay $90,000 more on death row prisoners than on prisoners in regular jails. Sure, jail costs a lot, but the death penalty costs more.

I'm getting my statistics from a different site than you. But here is why I think your stats are erroneous. You are going by how much money they will save in 5 years. Obviously, prisoners are going to be jailed for longer than 5 years. With each year, they will cost another 30-40 thousand dollars. It adds up to more than what the death penalty costs. There are a thousand times more prisoners in prison for life than there are getting the death penalty. So when you add all of the costs up, the prisoners for life are costing us more. Several other websites have said the same.
