I'm not sure. I realize the words "under God are in it." It may be uncomfortable to say if you don't believe in God. But i don't know any non-religious person that has problem saying it. The pledge is to honor the great country of America. But I do believe people's beliefs should be respected. Do you think students should be required to say the pledge of alligence?

No, which is why it got cut out of our schools (in my district). I never said it anyways... I just sat down.

Get ready for me love, 'cause I'm a Comer!!

He saw an Animal up on the hill,
chewing up so much grass until she was filled,
he saw milk coming out but he didn't know how,
He said I think I'll call it a cow.

Hey, look at me stumbling across this thread completely by accident. What d'ya know. Speaking as an atheist, albeit a Canadian once, I've never had any issue with saying any pledge. It's just words, and if you don't believe in them, then they're even more arbitrary then they were to begin with. That being said, that's only my viewpoint, and I know for a fact that there are people who aren't okay with it. And then there are people who aren't alright with NOT saying it. So here's my bottom line: no, you shouldn't be required to say the pledge. But don't get rid of it, either. The people who don't want to say it don't have to, and the people who want to can. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks that'd be too easy.

Because maybe if I use caps, people will take me more seriously.

No you shouldn't be required to say the pledge. I have a friend who lived in Armenia until she was six and she was made by our teachers to say the pledge. I think its unfair to her. (An yes she fluently speaks english now)

Look in the mirror and fix yourself up. Wash away those tears Be strong honey Suck it up No one else can know Paint on your smile and walk away. You have to pretend your fine.

If it didn't matter you wouldn't be thinking about it.

If you feel uncomfortable saying it you shouldn't have to.

I don't think you have to say the pledge, but show some respect. Stand up, shutup and put your hand over your heart. I can't stand people who don't, I stopped saying it for awhile and just stood and went through all the motions, but now I am starting to say it more and more.

Why should they have to stand up, or put their hand over anything? The whole point of making a free country is to let people decide what they want to support and believe in. If someone doesn't think they should have to do that, then they shouldn't have to, because those are the values that America was founded in. So if you think that someone should have to go through the motions whether they want to or not, then you're against America and therefore less patriotic then they are. Yeah, you heard me. Lawyered.
