While I agree with you that that would indeed be an effective, in terms of short term happiness, form of government, it is simply unrealistic. I'm positive I don't need to tell you this, but the goodness of man only extends so far, and when given a chance to exploit other people, he usually chooses to. A communistic society will only ever be extremely primitive at best, and could never hope to even come close to the technological achievements we've made today. It's simply because almost all of man will choose the path of least resistance. If John the forklift driver gets equal pay to Tim the chemist, who had to go through 8 years of college to get that job, it's pretty clear which job people would prefer to get. I also seriously doubt that people being equal in wealth will have crime cease, as, again, the nature of man is to accelerate himself. If stealing, or murder, or whatever other thing is considered illegal in this society can allow that, he'll probably do it."MrFail97" wrote:
Not necessarily, they would have their food, water and any other materials they could gather to build. Everyone would have the same amount of luxuries which would mean little crime which means no need for a government to rule...If anything happened it would be up to the people to decide which actions to take. As for man's potential I have to agree that human kind is very capable, but that same intelligence will eventually lead to the destruction of the earth (Nukes, cars, exploitation of oil, mass deforestation, etc.) The towns don't necessarily need to be unconnected either, it would be up to the people if they want to live in a walled town or if they want to trade with other people. Government doesn't need to be a single person always watching over his/her people, just a town coming together to decide which actions to take in a time of need...Although it would need a single person to arise in these times in order maintain order between ideas it would be up the the people's votes to decide what to do... Basically a communist democracy. Thank you for the input!
but that same intelligence will eventually lead to the destruction of the earthI don't really like this line because it's presented as an absolute, but I'm not sure if you intended that. It's possible that we just end up expanding into space without blowing up Earth.

Although it would need a single person to arise in these times in order maintain order between ideas it would be up the the people's votes to decide what to doI'm not sure what you mean here. Do you mean that it's the people's vote that decides the guy who will be in charge in time of need, or that it's the people's vote after the guy in charge has given his opinion on the matter?

Do you mean that it's the people's vote that decides the guy who will be in charge in time of needYes, the people decide before hand who would stand up and take control in a time of need.
or that it's the people's vote after the guy in charge has given his opinion on the matter?Everyone would give their opinion, including the person in charge at the time. With a world of Independent towns some things may differ in the way different towns act in any time of need, some may stick to a people's committee while others put one person in charge and his/her rule is law, it really would depend on the town. This is just a theory that I came up with, and like all theories parts of it wouldn't work if it actually happened. Like you said, the nature of man is to accelerate himself and that would either lead to one person murdering another town member, or whole towns waging war against one another. Those kinds of things would have to be improvised for. I really don't see why there would be a need to murder or steal if there is nothing to gain from it... if everyone has the same things and there is no position to gain than killing would be pointless.

They'd murder because people like killing things, hence why we're capable of destroying everything right now. Anyway, I just two last questions. Do you think a communistic/democratic society like that could possibly be advanced? and Would a builder still receive the same payment as the guy who makes sure everyone is getting equal pay for their jobs, despite the building job clearly being much more difficult?"MrFail97" wrote:

So there's no incentive to helping your neighbor build his house? A lot of people aren't going to do it then, especially if they're not punished."MrFail97" wrote:
Not at all. I am the kind of person that would much rather play things safe... some people like to take risks, but I would much rather live in a log cabin with only one worry in my mind... "I hope my livestock isn't attacked..." Just simple, the way people lived for thousands of years. There wouldn't be pay, people would build their own houses with the help of neighbors if they needed it. Everyone would live the same, no higher people.
