Why I think religion shouldn't affect gay marriage...

One of the common and perhaps only arguments against gay marriage is that the act is an abomination to God. Firstly, I would like to point out that there is a separation from church and state. Because of this, my question is, why is a religion, majority or not, allowed to determine LGBT+ community's rights? Why, considering this, does the subject even need to be debated? We don't feel the need to vote on outlawing the eating of pork because the Jewish half of society, so why should we do basically the same thing concerning Christians and homosexuals? Secondly, since I'm pretty sure most of the Christians and anti-gay rights users have tuned out and are planning their angry rampaging as I speak, the Bible bans a lot of things. A lot of things that Christians don't always, or ever, follow. Leviticus 15:19-20 bans associating with women who are on their periods. I can tell you all now that, by reading this and assuming that everything in the Bible is to be followed, you are sinning, because I am on my period. Leviticus 19:19 bans wearing cotton and polyester blends... by those standards, buying your clothes at Walmart is also a sin. So my question is, what makes the Leviticus verse banning homosexuality any more valid that the ones I've mentioned (and many others)? On the topic of God and sinning and the Bible, what happened to love your neighbor as you would love yourself? Or "Jesus is the only judge?" Unless your love for yourself is at a very, very low point I would like to think you aren't fulfilling your duties as a good Christian. Also, I understand that everyone has their beliefs and you are entitled to them, but when they come in the way of equality they should be kept to yourself. I'd also like to point out that by legalizing gay marriage you wouldn't be sinning, so why is this such an "abomination" to you? Let your God be the judge of that. If these lovely people would like to sin, let them, so long as they aren't murdering anyone or things of that sort. Now, I'm getting awfully lazy in typing this out so I'll leave one last point; 1 out of 10 people are gay. Considering this, it is very possible that at least one of the 12 disciples is gay. 'Nuff said. Leave your comments and arguments but please keep them user-friendly.

'Cuz I'm a gleek, baby!

Plus, there is the fact that the kind of marriage we want, the legal contract, has nothing to do with religion.

Here's something that I've been noticing...  Why does the church only pick out certain parts of the Bible that prohibit certain things... and want to turn it into a law, but completely ignore all the rest? Like you said, in the Bible, it clearly states association with women who are menstruating is ' an abomination', why don't they attempt to make a bill ordering all men to stay away from women on their period? That's stupid, but so is 'making gay marriage illegal', why don't they make bills saying 'it's okay to sell your daughters', or banning all shell fish, etc? Why do they take stuff, that is 'acceptable' to the public eye, and completely wallow in it, where as they ignore everything else.  Can someone please answer this?

I gotta agree with the post. Not to mention I think that people are just born they way they're born. If you asked the staunchest, rudest anti-gay supporter if they woke up one day and made a conscious decision to start being attracted to men/women and that they said: Gee, I decide I'll be straight today and maybe tomorrow and maybe the day after. Same thing goes for the gayest man/woman. They didn't just say: Hmm...I guess I'll be gay. Obviously not even mentioning TG people or anyone else. People are who they are. It's 2012. It's time to stop persecuting and actively dehumanizing and murdering people for being themselves. I'm PRETTY sure there's more important things, we as a nation, should be putting our minds to. But people will never just mind their own business. People like the WBC crew will never be satisfied unless they're spewing hate into the world to make up for their own pitiful lives. They only use religion as an EXCUSE to hate. They'd look rather foolish if they weren't hiding behind "Gods word". So they use religion as an excuse to hate and not a reason to love.

A lot of Christians believe that Jesus' death abolished many of the Old Testament laws, including those. They still consider homosexuality to be wrong because it's mentioned in the New Testament. Still, they don't usually follow other things in the New Testament like  1 Timothy 2:12 "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent." So, if you're a gay guy and a woman ever tells you that you're an abomination, do her a favor and tell her to be quiet and follow her religion.

Oh, right! I heard something similar to that coming from a total... bigot, no offense to her. "So, if you're a gay guy and a woman ever tells you that you're an abomination, do her a favor and tell her to be quiet and follow her religion." You miss, have inspired me smile Most people who do talk down at me for having an interest in both men and women are ladies. I have a great comeback now, to their twisted, and intolerable logic. Thanks for answering :3

My pleasure Big Grin Please use the verse! I'm a girl, so it wouldn't mean much coming from me.

Another fun verses to use against religious women picking on you is 1 Corinthians 11:6 "If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head." Dishonor on your whole family.

Oh my... 0.0 I thought it only said that in the Qur'an! But, still a good verse to use against some of the spiteful ladies on our block. Thanks again, Alex smile What about religious men that think they're all mighty -.- What can I do to stand up to them?
