I got this idea from a blog I like. I'll be posting examples of casual racism, heterosexism, sexism, ableism, etc. The goal is to educate people who are interested and to point out things they might not have noticed. These are all "casual" because the people who do these things don't necessarily mean to be insulting. I'll define what ableism and other terms are when they come up. Here's an example: Casual heterosexism is asking who the man or woman is in a same s-x relationship. Heterosexism is prejudice against people who aren't straight. If you have any questions about why these things are insulting, please ask.

You don't have to insult yourself for not understanding that. In this thread I'll post examples of things people say and do without realizing they are offensive and oppressive, so that those people become aware and hopefully choose to stop doing them.

Casual racism is asking why Japanese anime characters always look "white." Explanation: Anime characters don't. Their features aren't realistic. The reason people assume the characters are white is because The Default Human Being in their minds is white. Another example of this is how most Americans would likely say that a stickfigure were a white male unless it had stereotypical features pointing otherwise.

Casual sexism is when a girl expresses strong feelings on a certain issue and someone asks if she's "on her period." Casual ableism is when a person with a mental condition expresses strong feelings on a certain issue and someone asks if they "remembered to take their medication." Ableism is prejudice against people with disabilities.

Casual heterosexism is calling an LGBTQA+ person's sexual orientation a "lifestyle." Heterosexism is prejudice against anyone who isn't straight.

Heterosexism is prejudice against people who aren't straight. Casual heterosexism is wanting a "gay best friend." Gay people are not toys and shouldn't be objectified/stereotyped. ***There is a difference when a gay person jokes about this. They have the right to because they are the ones being oppressed in this case. Casual heterosexism is using slurs against opponents in online games because "It's just a game, calm down!" And "The game wouldn't be the same without trash talk!" Casual heterosexism is saying "I'm so glad that even though you're a lesbian, you don't hit on me. Casual heterosexism is supporting "traditional marriage" but "totally loving gay people." Casual heterosexism is thinking it's okay to tell others of someone's sexuality without asking them.
