The girl smiles as she watches a little leaf flutter in the breeze.
Oh, the little leaf,
she thinks. Must've traveled a long way here, like me.
A month ago, the girl was taken away from her home in her nightgown. She was told that she was not a normal person, that she needed to be taken away to a safer place. She did not want to leave her home, her mother, her father, her friends. And who are these people, she thought as they escorted her away from her home, To take me away from my loved ones, and tell me I'm not a normal person?! She is only fifteen, and now, she's left the life she's known--Only ever known--, probably forever. The leaf lands in her dark brown hair, falling only once onto her light green dress. The axlotl crawls onto her dress, snatching the leaf. The sun warms her body, as she gets up, stretching her stiff legs and arms. She would only be here for a moment until she sets foot on the train again.
"Might as well cherish it while I have it," she whispers to no one in particular.
She scoops up the lamb and the axlotl just as she hears her name being called.
"December, the train's leaving in twelve minutes," someone says. "Make it fast, and you might be able to catch it."
