Step Up 2 the Streets DVD Review

Newcomers Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman star in Step Up 2 the Streets, the sequel to the 2006 flick Step Up that showed off Channing Tatum's dance moves. Find out how this sequel measures up to the first movie!

Steppin' Up One More Time

Andie (Briana Evigan) is a member of a tough street dance gang named the 410, who gets accepted to the Maryland School of the Arts, which is where the first Step Up movie took place. Being from the wrong side of the tracks, Andie finds it hard to fit in and make new friends at the prestigious school. But when it becomes too hard to juggle school stuff with her old lifestyle and she misses one too many dance practices, she gets dropped from the 410.

Steppin' on Toes

Not wanting to lose face, Andie forms a new crew made up of the freaks and geeks at MSA, including Chase (Robert Hoffman) who has a serious crush on Andie, so they can compete against the 410 in The Streets, an underground dance competition in Baltimore. Think a bunch of stuck-up rich kids can get it together in time to battle it out with a fierce inner-city crew?

DVD Features

The DVD extras on Step Up 2 the Streets include two featurettes, Through Fresh Eyes: The Making of Step Up 2 which follows around the director Jon Chu, and Outlaws of Hip Hop: Meet the 410 is an interesting look at how they came up with the choreography. Other extras include music videos from the soundtrack and deleted scenes.

Bottom Line

Step Up 2 the Streets features some pretty smooth grooves, killer hip-hop tracks from T-Pain, Flo Rida, Missy Elliott, Yung Joc and Akon, and a cameo appearance by Channing Tatum, who reprises his role as Tyler Gage. Unfortunately, none of it is enough to make you drop 10 bucks on this recycled plot.
