Pokemon Card Game: Diamond and Pearl Legends Awaken

Snooze button, anyone? Not for these legendary Pokemon! Crawling out of bed at kick-your-butt-o'clock, they're ready for action in the Pokemon card game's Diamond & Pearl - Legends Awaken set. With Heatran, Regigigas, and a new Deoxys joining the fun, there's a lot going on. Gary checked it out and here's his Pokemon review.

Just Five More Minutes Mom!

With 146 new cards this set is big! The big stars are Heatran and Regigigas, but there are more awesome Pokemon - like Giratina, Kyogre, Jirachi, Groudon, Spiritomb, and Lucario. There's also Snowpoint Temple, which gives basic Pokemon a boost. And don't forget Stark Mountain, which lets you play the legendary Iron Man Pokemon! Er, no, wait - Stark Mountain lets you move Fighting and Fire energy cards around.

Bombardment Theme Deck Review

Combining Fighting and Water, this deck powers-up basic Pokemon with Snowpoint Temple and gives you the ability to put damage where you want. That means no running and hiding for your opponent's Pokemon, you can KO them anytime! Plus, Regigigas is unstoppable and virtually immune to special conditions. Once he shows up, your opponent is in deep trouble!

Thumbs Up:

  • Regigigas is unstoppable!
  • Controlling damage = more KOs.
  • Snowpoint Temple is a great boost for Basic Pokemon!
  • Thumbs Down:

  • Gligar is pretty lame...
  • Theme Deck Rating:

    Metal Surge Theme Deck Review

The combination of Metal and Grass Pokemon is like a bazooka! This deck hits so hard your opponent will need a helmet. Especially the legendary Pokemon Heatran - with a few lucky coin-flips it can KO anything. Metagross, Metang and Beldum are solid too - sturdy Pokemon that help you draw the cards you need to win. If you want to blow stuff up, this is the deck for you.

    Thumbs Up:

  • Heatran can do huge damage!
  • Metagross, Metang and Beldum are awesome.
  • Thumbs Down:

  • Unlucky coin-tosses = teensy-tiny damage.
  • Theme Deck Rating:

    Legends Awaken - Snooze Time?

With a pile of powerful Pokemon, a great stadium for basic Pokemon and two versions of a lot of basic Pokemon, there's a lot in this set for new players. The Theme Decks are a good start too - especially since Regigigas can be added to any Pokemon deck! Set your alarm so you can get up and grab some of these cards.
