Why Double Zero is a Slam Dunkin' Hero

Oct 04, 2016

Michelle Snow is no flake on the basketball court. The former University of Tennessee star, who now plays for the Houston Comets in the WNBA can rebound, block shots and even dunk the ball. That's right - this 6 foot 5 inch chick can take the ball to the hoop and jam it.

In November 2000, Michelle became just the third woman in college basketball history to dunk a ball during a game. Her teammates and coaches had been urging her to dunk in a game for the last year, since she does it all the time during practice. Even fans would come to games with signs reading "Dunk the Ball". She finally got a chance during a game on November 30th against the University of Illinois. With just ten seconds left in the game, Michelle stole the ball at halfcourt and pounded the ball through the hoop with a two-handed dunk. Her team and the crowd went nuts.

Michelle has been making crowds go crazy ever since she played high school basketball in Florida. She led her team to a state tournament championship and was named Florida's "Miss Basketball" in 1998. Michelle also has dozens of nicknames including "Shorty", "Big Head", "Jelly Bean", "Boo", "Bird" and "Doughnut". Her friends and family usually just call her "Shell". But the way this chick jams the ball, she could also be known as "SnowJam" or "Shell Shock".

More Michelle

Michelle was born Donnette J-Michelle Snow, but so many people screwed up her name that she decided to just go with, Michelle.

Her favorite basketball stars are Kobe Bryant, Cynthia Cooper and Dennis Rodman.

"I had always hoped that when I dunked in a game, it would be a breakthrough in women's basketball, that girls out there would see me do it and know that they too can accomplish their dreams."
