Dear Dish-It,
My mom won't let me dye my hair the way I want. I want to dye it with red and golden streaks, but she said that it's for crazy people. I want to be myself and dying my hair makes me feel like an individual. Why doesn't she want me to dye my hair?
Jessy
Dear Jessy,
It sucks when your parents veto your plans, especially when it involves your personal style statements. I can't tell ya why your mom is against your hair plans - you'd have to ask her to get the 411 on that - but here's some possible reasons... maybe your mom isn't ready to let you grow up. Sometimes, parents have a hard time letting you do things on your own, like making major hair decisions. I have a friend whose parents won't let her cut her hair shorter than her shoulders until she's 18. I have another friend who isn't allowed to wear all-black clothes because she's "not old enough." Let's face it - parents can be weird. Then again, maybe your mom is trying to save you from making a giant mistake, like dying your hair a color that will be hard to get out if you change your mind. If you're totally jonesin' to make a hair statement, take your mom to the local drug store and show her those new, wash-out dyes. Maybe she'll let you play with your hair color if she knows it'll only last until your next shower. Good luck!
So gotta burnin' question? Need some love directions? Thinkin' about stuff like teen suicide, depression, sex, low self-esteem, boyfriends, girlfriends, losing old friends, bullying or peer pressure but are too scared to ask the 'rents? Don't be scared to Dish-It. Just remember, if you hang out in chat with other Kidzworld members who know you by your nick, you might wanna use a secret nick when you write in. That way no one will ever know it's you. Remember though, Dish-It gets tons of letters a day, so she can't answer 'em all. But keep checkin' the column cuz chances are, she'll be answering something very similar to your question soon. Thanks! Got some words of wisdom you wanna share? We'll dish them up too.
