War of the Worlds - Alien Invaders and Special Effects
Brace yourself for an
eye and ear invasion! The thundering booms of the
alien war machines and incredible explosions and special effects in the
War of the Worlds are gonna knock your socks off and nail 'em to the wall. On top of the
alien invaders, there's also a solid family story going on with Roy (
Tom Cruise), Rachel (
Dakota Fanning) and Robbie who have to run from the aliens and deal with the whole world getting blown up at the same time.
Dakota Fanning is especially awesome, even though she spends most of the time screaming in
fear - but wouldn't you too?
War of the Worlds - Saving the World?
A word of warning - this movie can really freak out younger brothers and sisters. It's
PG-13 for a gruesome spot or two, plus some totally nerve-wracking stuff and a constant barrage of
special effects and
alien monsters. Other than that, the biggest bummer is how sudden the
ending is. It ends the same way as the original
War of the Worlds, but this movie is different and the ending doesn't work as well.
War of the Worlds - DVD Features
The basic War of the Worlds DVD doesn't include too many extras, so if you're looking for a lot of behind-the-scenes
secrets you'll want to pick up a copy of the
2-Disc Limited Edition DVD. It's a little bit
more expensive, but it's jam-packed with commentary from Spielberg himself, featurettes about how to create
alien life forms and much more!
War of the Worlds - Bottom Line
If you're looking for a
popcorn-fest of a
sci-fi movie, then War of the Worlds is a home run hit. It has
freaky aliens, awesome effects, good acting and a whole lot of destruction. The ending is weak, but it's worth checking this movie out even if it's just to chill and watch the aliens stomp around.
