Courtesy of EXPNThe Action Sports Alliance - What Is It?
The Alliance is a group of
female skateboarders and other
action sports athletes who have joined together to
encourage more girls to get involved in action sports. They've organized several
demos and skate comps for female skateboarders and helped professional female skateboarders
earn more money at skateboarding competitions.
The Action Sports Alliance - Who Is It?
The
Action Sports Alliance includes most of the big names in female skateboarding including
Cara Beth Burnside,
Lyn Z Adams Hawkins,
Vanessa Torres and
Jen O'Brien. The group helped double the prize money girls received at
X Games 12 in 2006 and increased the
amount of television coverage female skateboarding gets. They figure that if there is more girls skateboarding on TV, more girls will want to skateboard and more parents will be willing to
buy skate gear for girls. The Action Sports Alliance are also trying to get the organizers of the
Dew Action Sports Tour to open the
skateboarding,
motocross and
BMX events to female competitors.
The Action Sports Alliance - How Can You Join?
You can help increase opportunities for
female skateboarding by joining the
Action Sports Alliance. You'll get a T-shirt, skate DVD and a chance to enter contests to win cool skate gear. For more info on the Action Sports Alliance, head to
www.actionsportsalliance.com.
