H2O Interview with Cariba Heine and Phoebe Tonkin (pg. 2)

May 30, 2008

Sindy: You look so great swimming under water. I heard a story one of you hired a swim coach to help you get the part, who was that?

Cariba: That was me. My best friend was a national swimming champ and her mom teaches swimming too, so before we went for the last audition in the water I worked with her for a week. She taught me to swim properly because I had been a doggy-paddler. I needed the help desperately.

Sindy: I know it’s pretty early in your careers, but have you always wanted to be actors and performers?

Phoebe: I knew when I was about eleven that I wanted to act. I did a lot of workshops and eventually went to drama school and decided in 9th or 10th grade that I wanted to get an agent. I got H2O pretty soon after that.

Cariba: I’ve danced my whole life so I’ve always wanted to be a performer. I started acting when I was about 16 and after getting onto H2O I really knew that acting was something I wanted to pursue as well.

Sindy: What’s up next for you girls other than more H2O?

Cariba: I did an Australian show about surfing, but I don’t think it’ll show over there. Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks have done a show down here called Pacific, which is like a remake of Band of Brothers, and I had a guest role on that.

Phoebe: I’ve been auditioning a lot, taking a bunch of classes and doing more modeling and commercial stuff lately.

Sindy: Is there anything you would like your new North American fans to know about you and the show?

Cariba: I guess they should know that the show is filmed on the Gold Coast part of Australia. Most people might think it was shot in Sydney, but the Gold Coast is a big holiday destination and is such a beautiful place.

Sindy: Yeah, you filmed at Sea World there. Any funny stories about working with the animals?

Cariba: I got head butted by a shark! We actually got it on camera. A shark swam between me and Claire and I don’t know if it was a fin or what, but I remember it being a pretty hard hit!

Sindy: Wow, never a dull moment on H2O! Thanks so much for talking to us girls! We can’t wait to see more of the show!

Phoebe: Thank you! Bye.
