Watch These Scary Movies

Dec 27, 2006

Not going out this Halloween? Maybe you think you're too old to hit the bricks for a bag of candy. Or maybe you just can't be buzzed enough to throw together a costume. That's okay, there are other great ways to spend Halloween.

The Kidzworld Staff has thrown together a quick list of our fave spooky movies. So check 'em out, rent 'em at your local video store, pop the popcorn and settle in for a terrifying night of video thrills and chills.

Time After Time

Tagline: Imagine! A scientific genius named H.G. Wells stalks a criminal genius named Jack the Ripper across time itself, in the most ingenious thriller of our time...
Monster Boots' Pick: Okay, this may be an older movie but it's scary! Let's face it - Jack the Ripper is one freaky serial killer. So imagine him travelling forward in time and arriving in 20th century San Francisco. Oh yeah, we're talkin' the Ripper here, so there's a bit of well-placed blood, but none of that squirting into the camera stuff (for those of you who are a bit squeamish.)

Fright Night

Tagline: If you love being scared, it'll be the night of your life.
Black Widow's Pick: This is one of my fave vampire movies. If you dig fangs and Buffy-like scares, then this is a must-see! Make sure you turn the lights out before you play the flick.

Scream

Tagline: Don't Answer The Phone. Don't Open The Door. Don't Try To Escape.
Fang's Pick: I like this movie cuz you're laughing at the same time as you're peeing yourself with fear. Actually, who knows if you're peeing from fear or laughter. And remember, I'm talkin' about the orginal Scream, not the sequels. Blah. Definitely grab this flick as part of your scary halloween movie marathon... but whatever you do, don't answer the phone!

Serpent and the Rainbow

Tagline: Don't bury me...I'm not dead!
Rabid Wolf: Black magic, voodoo... I love that stuff. This is one wickedly spooky movie. Being buried in a coffin, having spiders crawl across your face, yup that's truly disturbing. This is the sort movie that leaves you with nightmares cuz it taps into all kinda fears and phobias. Consider yourself warned.
