Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Special

Dec 27, 2006

The King of Pop is far from washed up! It's been 11 years since he's performed solo but Michael Jackson's explosive TV concert proves he's still the king.

Exploding pyrotechnics rocked the audience as Usher, Mya and Whitney opened the show with Michael's hit, Wanna Be Startin' Something. Usher gave Michael some competition in the fancy footwork department - that boy can move. Usher and Mya even took to the air, twirling above the stage with harnesses.

Most of the show was great with the exception of a couple painful performances. Billy Gilman's squeaky voice was a little hard to take, but he doesn't get 1st prize for painful performance. That honor goes to Liza Minnelli. She was the crazy lady with raccoon eyes and a voice like a rusty hinge. Ouch!

Other musicians who performed were Destiny's Child, 98 Degrees and Shaggy but everyone was dying to see *NSYNC and Michael singing Dancing Machine. I thought it was pretty good but the boys have had better days. The rest of the show centered around the reunion of The Jackson 5 who performed a bunch of their hits including, I Want You Back.

Michael proudly showed off his unique dance moves, hat flipping, moon walking and 'cough' grabbing. The all-ages crowd went nuts when he broke into Billie Jean. His moves were so robotic it seemed like he was beamed down from the Starship Enterprise. It was as if the floor moved below him as he slithered about.

The show closed with You Rock My World as he was joined by the hip-swiveling Usher and friend Chris Tucker, who impersonated Michael. The show was a success and a great way for Michael to make his big comeback, plug his new album and let the world know that he's still the King of Pop.
