Help Sonic and friends battle dimension-hopping villains in the fastest RPG in the world! We review this new DS game here.

Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends have a great big new adventure for the Nintendo DS. A bunch of bad guys have dropped in, kidnapped Knuckles, stolen the Chaos Emeralds and called Cream mean names. Whatta pack of jerks! Now you can help Sonic, Amy, Rouge, Tails and the rest uncover what's going on and bash bad guy butt in this new RPG. But how awesome is it? Get the 411 with Gary's Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood game review!

Ring Around the DS

This game takes the high-speed ring-collecting action of Sonic and turns it into a role playing game full of power-ups, hit points, power points and more. You get to build a team of four characters, each with different powers to help you get around the maps. Each character has different special moves too and can team up to unleash combo attacks for major damage! You buy the moves by spending points each time you level up, but it's not hard to get them all. The levels also have puzzles to solve, side-quests and more to play with as you work with GUN to save the day!

Take THAT Bad Guys!

Not only does this game look great, from the maps to the villains and more, it's also an easy RPG to play. The power moves take some skill to use properly, but that gives you something to do in battles and they're really powerful when you activate them properly. The other cool thing is the Chao - you can find their eggs all over, hatch them, and bond them with your characters to get some awesome boosts! Plus, they're cute and you can trade them with friends.

A Hedgehog Slowdown

The first problem with this game is that Sonic doesn't feel fast. Moving around is slow and the "Dash" moments only last a few seconds. The game is also packed full of really basic, and kinda boring, RPG action - mostly running around and getting items for people. After a while, things pick up, but you need to race through Snoreville first.

Race to the Finish!

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood has a few problems, but it's a really pretty RPG that's great for first-time players. It's also a lot of fun to be able to build teams with the famous characters from the Sonic games. If you like the hedgehog and his friends, or want to try an RPG that won't make your head hurt, you'll get a kick out of kicking the dark brotherhood's butt in this game!

Thumbs Up:

  • Play with Sonic and his friends!
  • An easy RPG for first-timers.
  • Collect and trade Chao!
  • The worlds, heroes and villains look great.

  • Thumbs Down:

  • A big chunk of Zzz... at the start of the game.
  • Sonic is slow? Boo...

  • Game Rating: 4

    Available for: DS.
