Space Invaders Get Even :: WiiWare Game Review

Space Invaders Get Even is an interesting and cheap new take on the classic Space Invaders game, but is the game worth it?

Space Invaders Get Even is a cool new take on the classic Space Invaders arcade game, but this time, you play as the invading aliens who were beaten back three decades ago. You control a mothership that sends the classic Space Invaders enemies at human tanks and buildings, causing havoc and maybe abducting a few cows for research along the way.

Revenge of the Aliens

Space Invaders Get Even finally gives you the chance to make up for all the aliens lost against humanity back in 1978 on arcade machines everywhere. Now you get to tear down the cities and militaries of Earth, hearing their commanders babble constantly, trying to figure out how to take on your ships ("We don't have the technology to fight 2-Dimensional enemies!"). You can order your Invaders to attack human tanks in a number of ways while dodging human missiles, shaking the Wiimote furiously to replenish your lost forces. Space Invaders Get Even is an exciting, fun, and sometimes hilarious game.

You're Running Out of Time!

Though you can never run out of Invaders, every mission has a set time limit. This limit is increased by destroying buildings, and decreased when your mothership gets hit. This time limit makes for a very difficult game, and there isn't any "Easy" setting. Some missions may become frustrating as you can't seem to find a way to complete it on time.

Shorter than a School Lunch

Unfortunately, the game you get for your $5 isn't at all like a full game. You are given three short missions that, if you can manage to beat them on the first try, will last you about fifteen minutes. The game instead gives you the option to pay another five dollars for one of their three extra mission packs, which contain six missions each. The Wii doesn't offer demos like the other two major consoles, but this feels like paying 5 dollars to play a demo. Be ready to pay all 20 dollars if you like it, or else you'll feel cheated when you see credits roll after only playing for half an hour.
