When a band of criminals take over a New Jersey mall, it’s up to a lonely, obese security guard to protect the hostages and save the day. Kidzworld reviews Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

A Sad and Lonely Life

Paul Blart’s life was anything but perfect. His wife, an illegal immigrant, left him just after their daughter was born, he can’t find a girlfriend, he has hypoglycemia (a disorder that requires a regular intake of sugar), he’s very overweight and he just failed his test to become a New Jersey police officer…again.

Mall Security

Now Paul works as a mall security guard, a thankless job where no one takes him seriously. All he wants is the chance to prove himself and win the girl of his dreams—Amy, a gorgeous woman who works at a hair extension kiosk in the mall.

Eyes on the Inside

On Black Friday, a gang of criminals take over the mall, trying to steal the credit card codes from all the stores. Aside from the hostages and criminals, Paul is the only person left in the mall. Instead of fleeing, Paul steps up the plate—this is his chance to shine. But can he, a 300 pound untrained security guard, take on a team of agile, ninja-like lawbreakers? And most importantly, can he save the hostages, which includes both Amy and his daughter?

The Bottom Line

While Kevin James (from King of Queens) is a funny comedian, this movie doesn’t do him justice. You’ll have a few good laughs, but the funniest scenes are revealed in the previews. While the movie is mildly humorous, it doesn’t stand out from other typical underdog stories. You’ll feel sorry for the main character, and wonder why, when he can’t seem to find a girlfriend, he sets his sights on the most beautiful girl in the mall.
