Coraline Movie Preview

Oct 11, 2017

Coraline is lonely—all her parents ever want to do is work, and every grown-up she meets calls her Caroline instead of Coraline—how annoying!

During a dull, rainy afternoon, Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning) explores her new house and discovers a door that leads to another house—this one looks just like hers but it’s better. The wallpaper talks to her, the food is the best she’s ever tasted, the cats talk, and best of all, Coraline’s Other Mother gives her everything she wants! In fact the Other Mother has created a whole world for Coraline including a circus theatre with an audience of 500 Scottie dogs and dozens of mice that perform dance routines.

Button Blight

There’s only one problem—the Other Mother wants Coraline to stay for good. Staying in such a great place forever doesn’t sound so bad, right? Well, I forgot to mention one very creepy fact. Everyone in the other house has button eyes, including the Other Mother, so Coraline would have to follow suit and replace her own eyes with buttons! Yikes, right?! Coraline must use all her smarts to escape the twisted Other Mother and return to her real life and the parents who really love her.

Based on the Book

Coraline is based on a book of the same name by the acclaimed sci-fi writer and graphic novelist, Neil Gaiman. The movie combines stop-motion animation with computer generated effects, so the animators can move the hand-made characters with the same flexibility of a completely digital creation. The result is a unique visual experience—you’ll want to reach out and touch the screen.
