School Scanners

Home room, attendance, lining up for lunch and checking a book out of the library are all part of everyday school life. But new [kwlink 14727]technology is being introduced to change the way some schools do all these things.

Some students in England, for example, are now registering and taking out books with their fingerprints. One school in the U.K. is even using special scanners that can recognize kids' faces. The scanners use a special technology called biometrics, which is also found in [kwlink 1724]fingerprint scanners. They speed up things like taking attendance, but some experts don't think they're a good idea because the computers store a lot of personal information, which could end up getting into the wrong hands.
