The 29th Annual American Music Awards

Jan 04, 2019

The 29th Annual American Music Awards aired January 9, 2002 from the Shrine Auditorium in LA. The three-hour show (yawn) was hosted by P. Diddy (and his gazillion names) and Jenny McCarthy who was pretty funny. The problem with The AMA's is that the mood is always so serious and b-o-r-i-n-g, unlike the MTV awards.

Most of the show was pretty boring but there were a few stand-out performances. Usher performed his latest slow hit, U Got It Bad. He sounded great and he held the audience's full attention with his out-of-this-world moves, ending the performance by tearing off his shirt and spinning to the floor (sizzle!) Lenny rocked the stage with his latest hit, Dig In and speaking of rockin' the joint - Kid Rock's performance of Lonely Road of Faith was the wildest performance of the night!

Britney got big, big applause from her man Justin after she performed her ballad, I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman. Some of the artists who left with awards included Lenny Kravitz for Favorite Male Artist, Janet Jackson for Favorite Female Artist and *NSYNC with Favorite Band, Duo or Group. Destiny's Child was in complete shock when their CD Survivor beat out Dave Matthews Band's Everyday and *NSYNC's Celebrity for Favorite Album - Pop or Rock 'n Roll Music. The girls said they love *NSYNC and share the award with the guys and Dave Matthews Band.

Alicia Keys snagged two awards, one for Favorite New Artist - Pop or Rock 'n Roll Music and Favorite New Artist - Soul/Rhythm & Blues Music. Country hottie, Tim McGraw, snagged Favorite Male Artist - Country and U2 were voted Internet Artist of the Year. Mandy Moore looked sad when she accepted an award on behalf of Aaliyah, who was honored with two awards.

What did you guys think of the show? Did Usher rock, did Cher scare you with her platinum hair? Were you bummed *NSYNC didn't perform?

Britney Spears was obviously da bomb! There was like a house on stage. She sang so wonderfully too. That dress she wore was soooooo hot!!!! Overall though the show was like whatever except Brit's performance.
