Girls on the Gridiron

Dec 27, 2006

When it comes to football - girls aren't just the cheerleaders anymore. At the same time the NFL was kicking off week 7 - America welcomed the Women's Professional Football League. That's right, chicks playing full contact, tackle football.

The opening week featured 4 games including the Minnesota Vixens taking on the Chicago Blaze. You can say whatever you want about girls playing tackle football - but they sure pick some cool team names. How about these ones -- The Milwaukee Minx and the Colorado Valkyries. And I know you're asking, "So, like what's a Valkyrie?" Well, it's actually a hot Viking goddess from way back who carried a big sword and would kick butt like crazy - all the qualities you love in a good football player.

And more girls are deciding to be good football players - flag football and rugby leagues for girls are springing up all around North America. And more girls are starting to play the sport in high school too. And why not? Why [kwlink 171]cheer other people on[/kwlink 171] with pom-poms when it's even more fun to tackle them to the ground? The Women's Professional Football League plays its Title Game on February 3rd - the week after the Super Bowl. P>Related Stories:
