Who Is Garth Brooks?

Who would have guessed glam-rock bands Kiss and Queen influenced Garth Brooks' performances? Garth Brooks, known for his flashy checked shirts and butt-hugging jeans, was born in Yukon, Oklahoma. Music flowed through Garth Brooks' veins - his mom Colleen was a country singer in the '50s. She taught Garth Brooks how to sing and play guitar and he later joined a band in high school. When Garth Brooks was a young dude growing up, he concentrated on sports and even earned a track-and-field scholarship to Oklahoma State University.

Garth Brooks' Big Break

Garth Brooks' big singing break came when a Capitol Records talent scout discovered him in a club. In 1989 Garth Brooks released his self-titled album and had four Top 10 songs. Fans got to see a different side of Garth Brooks in 1998 when he created his slightly creepy alter-ego, pop/rock singer Chris Gaines. He released the album Garth Brooks...In the Life of Chris Gaines along with a TV movie. The Chris Gaines experiment proved Garth Brooks has musical range, unfortunately the wasn't a big hit with the fans who prefer Garth Brooks straight-up. Now that Garth Brooks has more than 15 albums to his credit, he says he will no longer record music. These days Garth Brooks is working behind the scenes by doing things like helping fellow country singer Tricia Yearwood write her next album.
