The 2010 Masters Golf Tournament

Apr 12, 2010

Augusta, Georgia in the USA is home of the Masters, a golf tournament where golfers try to win a Green Sports Jacket instead of a trophy. This year American Phil Mickelson won his 3rd Green Jacket and over a million dollars… not a bad paycheck for a weekend’s work walking around some grass hills smacking around a little white ball.

Ferocious Phil

The highlight of the day was when Phil shot for the green with 2 Georgia Pine trees smack dab right in front of him. It was a risky shot that could have blown his two-stroke lead at that time. He nailed it perfectly and birdied the hole.

Family For Phil

Phil won the tournament with lots of emotion and tears. Phil’s wife Amy has been diagnosed with breast cancer last year and she hasn’t been able to come see him play until this tournament. Phil, Amy and their three children were all able to celebrate on the 18th hole with a great big hug, as Phil finished quite easily in front of the second place finisher Lee Westwood. Phil won with a 16 under par score, the best score at the Masters since Tiger Woods in 2001.

Not So Terrible Tiger

Tiger's in ToughTiger's in Tough

The next biggest story was Tiger and his return to the game after missing 5 months of competition. If you haven’t heard about what happened to Tiger, let me fill you in:

  • He announced to the World that he has cheated on his wife with several women
  • The media has publicly humiliated him every day with reports, rumors and jokes
  • He has lost millions of dollars in missed competition and sponsorship opportunity
  • He is currently going through rehabilitation to save his marriage and family life

Tiger finished in a tie for 4th place at the Masters and looked pretty good considering the pressure that he had to face under the circumstances. He was actually welcomed back very well by the crowd at the Masters.
