Sterling Knight Interview

Apr 29, 2010

Kidzworld talks to Sterling Knight about working with Zac Efron, living in LA and the second season of Sonny with a Chance of course! We catch up with Sterling just after he finishes a photoshoot with Bop and Tiger Beat, what we'd give to be a fly on the wall!

On Starting Out

Growing up in Houston, Texas, Sterling was a theater kid for ten years before the film acting bug got to him. "Constantly being in front of a live audience, it was a natural progression for me to think about acting on TV," he said. Sterling moved to Los Angeles and started auditioning for roles when he was only 13 years old. With acting roles in Grey's Anatomy, Hannah Montana, the movie 17 Again, Disney's Starstruck, Hannah Montana and Sonny with a Chance, his career is definitely taking off!

On Fame

After wrapping up photoshoots on Bop, Tiger Beat and for Nylon Magazine (in a Young Hollywood shoot we can't wait to see!), Sterling admits that he still feels a bit shy in front of the camera. "I find photoshoots a little bit awkward. I always find it a bit weird when the focus is just on me!"

Surprisingly he doesn't get recognized on the street as often as you might think! "I think my fan base is a bit younger so you don't tend to see them out at the golf driving range!"

Sterling adds that his friends keep him grounded so fame doesn't get to his head. "My friends remind me that I'm not THAT cool!" In his spare time he loves to do things like golf, snowboarding and playing the guitar

Working on 17 Again

Lucky Sterling got to work with both Zac Efron and one of his favourite sitcom actors, Matthew Perry from Friends, on the set of 17 Again. "I've always been such a big fan of Friends and Matthew Perry's comedic timing is so perfect so it was so much fun to work with him on 17 Again. He's so down to earth and put up with my naivity on the set! I also had a lot of fun with Zac Efron, we got along great!" he said.

Starstruck

"Starstruck was so much fun but extremely fast-paced, we shot the whole movie in only 25 days so we didn't have that much time to prep. Danielle Campbell was so much fun to work with and is so amazingly talented. Even though she is relatively new to acting she is such a pro already!"

What's next?

Sterling is now filming the second season of Disney's Sonny with a Chance and hints that we can expect a funnier side of his character Chad to emerge. We can't wait to see more of Sterling!
