Ramona and Beezus Movie Review

Jul 24, 2010

Based on the beloved children’s novels by Beverly Clearly, Ramona and Beezus is a heartwarming family film that is sure to keep you laughing and crying.

Ramona Quimby

The film stars Joey King as 9 year old Ramona Quimby. Ramona is the middle of three sisters. Her older sister, Beezus (Selena Gomez), is perfect in every way. She’s pretty, well-behaved and she always gets straight A’s. And her baby sister Roberta can do no wrong. How can Ramona compete with that? Especially since she’s the unluckiest kid in the world.

Accident Prone

Ramona’s parents and teacher always mistake her creativity and energy for bad behavior. Somehow her energy always leads to an accident, whether it’s falling through her roof, dropping buckets of paint on her neighbors car or setting her stove on fire. But Ramona does everything with good intentions, especially when her home life takes a bad turn.

How to Make Money

Ramona’s father gets laid off. And no matter how many interviews he goes on, he never gets the job. Ramona decides that it’s up to her to make money so that her family doesn’t have to sell the house. But from a car washing service to commercial tryouts, all her money-making schemes turn into well-intentioned accidents. Will Ramona be able to save her family?

The Bottom Line

Ramona and Beezus shows life through a 9 year old's eyes. But that doesn’t mean the entire family can’t enjoy it. There are stories for every age: a budding teenage romance, a rekindling adult romance, and struggles between a husband and wife. Ramona and Beezus is heartwarming, funny and perfect for the whole family.
