Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: PSN Game Review

How far would you go for the girl of your dreams? Scott Pilgrim takes on the world in this awesome neo-retro PSN/XBLA game!

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World the movie came out not too long ago. It is riddled with video game references and even a couple of Seinfeld ones to boot. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World the video game is already out for PlayStation Network and will soon come out for XBox Live Arcade.

Dig That 8-Bit Beat

The game and the movie are based off of the graphic novels. Both follows Scott Pilgrim as he falls in love with Ramona Flowers and is thrown into a quest to defeat her seven evil exes. The game goes into more detail, even more than the books!

The game itself is a 4 player co-op brawler. Kind of like Castle Crashers or Dungeon Fighter. You can level up and learn new moves or save money to buy items. Each character has an awesome set of fighting moves, including counter attacks, side stepping, and multi-level combos.

There is a lot of video game references and the game itself is great retro fun. The graphics are beautiful, true to the comic, and the 8-bit music is amazing. There are even extra modes to try out, including Boss Rush[/kwlink] and Survival Horror.

You vs. The Game

The game is designed for co-op. It's hard to beat the game on your own without grinding out some levels or saving up for a super item. It definitely is more fun with friends, but unfortunately there is no drop-in/drop-out mechanic to make it easier. Even worse, there is no online co-op! If you play on your own and level up too much, you might get a bit ahead of your friends, which isn't cool either.

The least cool thing about the game is all the bugs. It seems that the PlayStation version of the game tends to freeze a lot, forcing you to restart the game. Hopefully, this will be fixed soon. However, even with the bugs, it is still very easy to recommend this awesome game.
