American Idol: Season 10, Episode 22 :: Top 11 Sing Elton John

Mar 28, 2011

This week on American Idol Season 10, the Top 11 (again) performed songs by legendary artist, Elton John. Episode 22 aired on March 30, and Kidzworld has the recap.

First up, Scotty McCreery countrified the one Elton John song that had country in the title—Country Comfort. The judges loved his performance, and Randy even claimed that this song sounded like it was on his record.

Naima Adedapo brought some reggae flavour to I’m Still Standing. The judges felt like her twist on the song didn’t quite work. From home, however, it sounded like her best performance yet.

Paul McDonald sang Rocket Man. Randy noticed a few pitchy spots, but Steven said that’s what he likes about Paul’s voice. As soon as he starts hitting every note, Steven won’t like him anymore.

Even though Pia Toscano sang yet another ballad despite Randy’s advice to switch things up, she rocked it. She sang Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.

Stefano Langone had a great performance with his version of Tiny Dancer. He connected with the audience, he hit all the high notes…but will it be enough to keep him around for another week?

Lauren Alaina sang the chart-topping single Candle in the Wind. The judges said it right: she’s back! She performed just as well as the first time they met her.

James Durbin is a born performer. He knows how to work the stage and work a crowd. J-Lo said is performance of Saturday Night’s Alright made her forget that she was watching a competition show.

Thia Megia sang a song that was dear to her heart—Daniel. The judges thought it was beautiful, despite a couple of pitchy parts. But was her performance memorable enough to stand out against the others?

After being saved by the judges last week, Casey Abrams needed to prove to America that he deserves to stay in the competition. He toned his performance of Your Song way down to its rawest, purest form. And it was beautiful and tender.

Jacob Lusk sang Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Part. The judges loved the arrangement, but they wished he had gone up to his highest note at some point in the song.

Haley Reinhart closed the show with Benny and the Jets, which Randy said was the best performance of the night.

Because of last week's save, we had to say goodbye to two contestants last night. Paul, Naima and Thia landed in the bottom three, but only Naima and Thia were eliminated.
