American Idol: Season 10, Episode 24 :: Top 9

Apr 06, 2011

The top 9 contestants on American Idol season 10 performed music from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on April 6, 2011 (episode 24). They received a little help from Will.I.Am during their preparations for the performance.

First up was Jacob Lusk singing Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror. The judges loved that he chose that song over his original pick, Let’s Get It On. He showed everyone that if you believe in yourself, you can do anything.

Next, Haley Reinhart performed Piece of My Heart by Janis Joplin. Steven admitted that he couldn’t find anything wrong with the song. She brought her A game, and J-Lo now feels that Haley is a contender.

Casey Abrams brought back the upright base in his performance of Have You Ever Seen The Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival. The judges called him revolutionary because of his ability to incorporate the upright base into modern music.

Lauren Alaina sang Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin. The judges had all good things to say, except for Randy who just had to mention that contestants on previous seasons performed the same song with a lot more power.

James Durbin slowed it down this week with While My Guitar Gently Weeps by George Harrison. The judges loved to see the softer, more emotional side of James, and they thought his song choice was perfect.

Scotty McCreery dropped most of his country twang for his performance of Elvis Presley’s That’s Alright Mama. The judges saw a whole new side of Scotty. And they even noted his Hip-Hop movements.

Pia Toscano sang River Deep, Mountain High by Tina Turner. The judges loved that she picked an up-tempo song this week. But they still think she needs to work on her overall performance. Her movements are too stiff and controlled.

Stefano Langone impressed J-Lo and Steven more than Randy with his performance of When a Man Loves a Woman by Percy Sledge. While J-Lo really felt his emotion, Randy said the song was too jumpy at the beginning.

Finally, Paul McDonald brought a little more energy than usual to his Johnny Cash song. The judges agreed, it was the perfect way to end the show.
