NHL Playoffs : Cup for Canada?

Apr 19, 2011

The 2011 NHL hockey playoffs has the Stanley Cup destined to come back home to Canada! The USA has had a stranglehold on the Cup for the past 17 years, however Canada finally has some hope in the Vancouver Canucks, the most dominant team in the NHL.

A lot of people don’t think the Canucks can win the Stanley Cup with their two best players Henrik and Daniel Sedin because they are the LEAST physical players in the NHL. The Playoffs are much rougher than the regular season so there is a rumor that the Sedin Twins will not be able to score their fancy goals. So far the rumor is wrong… the Sedin Twin line is scoring and the rest of the Canucks are hitting.

Rough Raffi

The Canucks are rolling over last year’s champs, the Chicago Blackhawks… literally. Raffi Torres delivered a hit like a steamroller right over Brent Seabrook last game. The hit was clearly a headshot and coincidently it was Raffi’s first game back after a 4 game suspension for a headshot. And with all these new NHL rules about headshots, you would think Raffi was going to be suspended for the rest of the playoffs. Nope! Raffi is back in action with no suspension… Wow! The Canucks must be destined to win the Stanley Cup with that kind of luck.

Canucks Competition

Even though the Canucks are sweeping the Hawks, they will have a long road of tough teams ahead of them before they can have a chance at the Stanley Cup… especially the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings have totally disabled the Phoenix Coyotes in one of the more embarrassing series of the Playoffs. Pavel Datsyuk has rendered the Coyotes totally powerless controlling the puck around them like a yo-yo.

Who else has a shot at the Stanley Cup this year? If Sidney Crosby comes back from his concussion injury, do you think the Pittsburgh Penguins have a chance? The East looks really weak as even the Big Bad Boston Bruins are having a tough time with the crippled Montreal Canadians. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
