Glee: Season 2, Episode 17 :: A Night of Neglect

Oct 04, 2016

This week on Glee (Season 2, Episode 17), New Directions throws a concert to raise money for Nationals. Also, Mercedes shows her inner diva. Check out our recap of “A Night of Neglect,” which aired on April 19, 2011.

The Fundraiser

Now that the New Directions have made it to Nationals they need to raise the money to take them there. Thankfully, Holly Holiday (played by Gwyneth Paltrow) turns down Mr. Schu’s idea to sell 20,000 pieces of taffy and suggests they sell tickets to a show where they can practice their songs. The theme of the show? A night of neglect that focuses on songs and artists that have been neglected by the public.

Now that the glee club has decided on an idea, they need to choose songs and find a way to pack the venue. Fortunately, Vocal Adrenaline’s Sunshine Corazan (who originally appeared earlier in the season) steps in and offers her 600 Twitter followers if she can sing “All By Myself.” All goes according to plan until the head of Vocal Adrenaline finds out about Sunshine’s plan and stops her from performing. Without her the club must group together and finish the show.

Diva

Not surprisingly, Mercedes finally stands up for herself after she realizes she is not being valued by the glee club. Lauren supports her cause and offers to be her manager. Mercedes, sick of being overshadowed by Rachel, demands she get better songs, a humidifier and puppies. Of course, Rachel doesn’t think Mercedes deserves all of her requests. After having a heart to heart – where Rachel admits she would rather be a star than be liked – Mercedes takes to the stage for the final song and steals the show.

In other news, Emma tells Mr. Schu that Carl has left her, leaving room for the two to reunite, and Kurt and Blaine make an appearance as an official couple. Next time on Glee Mr. Schu’s ex-wife comes back. Stay tuned for more Glee!
