So You Think You Can Dance: Season 8, Episode 10 :: Top 16 Perform

Jun 29, 2011

This week on So You Think You Can Dance Season 8, Kristin Chenowith joined the panel of judges to critique the Top 16 dancers. Episode 10 aired on June 29, 2011.

First up was Sasha and Alexander with a Dee Caspary Contemporary routine. The judges loved the use of the piano in the performance. Mary said they are both strong dancers, but Alexander needs to dig deeper to really embody his character.

Next, Mitchell and Caitlynn performed a samba dance. Mary called their moving and hip-shaking spectacular. She even slipped in the two words that all the dancers want to hear - Hot Tamale!

Miranda and Robert left the judges in awe with their Broadway routine, choreographed by Tyce Diorio. Miranda in particular has grown so much as a dancer since the begin of the season.

Melanie and Marko are the couple to beat. This week’s Lyrical Hip Hop routine was the story of two best friends who realize they’re in love. Their dramatic kiss in the middle of the song sparked a kissing frenzy on the judges panel!

Ashley and Chris performed a zombie-like jazz routine, choreographed by Sonya. Nigel didn’t feel a connection with their characters, but Mary thought they pulled off the synchronization beautifully.

Clarice and Jess stunned the judges with their sophisticated and smooth fox trot. Both were brilliant individually, but guest judge Kristin called them magic together.

After surviving last week’s brutal elimination, Ryan and Ricky performed a Sonya contemporary routine. The judges thought their dancing was beautiful and masterfully executed, and Nigel said that he was glad they kept the pair in the competition.

Finally, Jordan and Tadd performed a Hip Hop routine that Jordan wasn’t too comfortable acting out. It was about the morning after a wild night in college. Because there was more story than actual dancing, all the judges could say was “it was entertaining.”

Elimination

It was a shocking elimination this week. After Ashley and Chris, Miranda and Robert, and Mitchell and Caitlynn landed in the bottom three, the judges decided to send home the one dancer that they named "most improved" the day before - Miranda, along with her partner Robert.
