2012 NBA All-Star Weekend

Jul 10, 2018

The 2012 NBA All-Star weekend in Orlando, Florida was so jam-packed with entertainment, Disney World reported their lowest numbers in years! From Friday night’s Shaq vs Chuck Rising Stars’ Showdown to Sunday’s All-Star game, the NBA’s All-Star Weekend had more ups and downs than Magic Mountain Roller Coaster!

Celebrity Star

It was going to be hard to top the Justin Bieber spotlight at last year’s Celebrity all-star game… until no-name comedian (Kevin Hart) took center stage of this year’s show. Kevin’s dunk on a plastic kids hoop to upstage a little boy dressed up as Superman had to be the funniest scene at a NBA all-star weekend ever! Kevin went on to win the MVP after his mid-game meltdown and post-game award acceptance dramatics left everyone wondering, “Who is this guy?”

One of the coolest new events at the NBA All-Star weekend was this game called “Rising Stars”, where NBA legends and personalities Shaquille O’Neil and Charles Barkley drafted NBA rookies onto their own rosters to play in the game. The best part about this event was watching Shaq and Chuck bicker over their smarts and legendary statuses.

Slam Dunk Drama

Since the first days of the Slam-Dunk contest when Michael Jordan was marveled for making a dunk from the free-throw line… things have become a little more complex. It seems like nowadays to win a dunk contest, you have to have costumes and write plots to “wow” people. This year’s dunk winner was Jeremy Evans for his two-ball dunk while jumping over a teammate.

Gametime Greats

And there was the All-Star Game. Nicki Minaj performed the Musical Act to introduce the players. The game was spectacular, full of jaw dropping skilled plays, great dunks and lots of points. Kobe Bryant passed Michael Jordan as the all-time All-Star leading scorer and Kevin Durant won the MVP as the West beat the East 151-149.
