American Idol: Season 11, Week 8 :: 13 Finalists Perform

Mar 08, 2012

This week on American Idol (Season 11, Week 8), the top 13 perform songs by the legendary Stevie Wonder and the late Whitney Houston. Read Kidzworld’s recap of “13 Finalists Compete,” which aired on March 7, 2012, to discover what you missed.

Stevie and Whitney

This week, the boys and girls competed, ending in a different results show. The boys performed songs by Stevie Wonder and the girls performed songs by Whitney Houston. Instead of the traditional bottom three, Ryan will announce the bottom three boys and the bottom three girls, narrowed it down to the bottom boy and bottom girl, and had the judges decide who goes home.

Girls Rocked It

Unlike last week, the girls stole the show. Jessica Sanchez knocked it out of the park with Whitney Houston's most famous song, I Will Always Love You. The judges admited that she had the best vocals of the night, and possible the best in the whole competition. Jessica is a clear front runner. Other notable girls included Hollie Cavanagh and Erika Van Pelt, who was one of the judges wild card picks.

The Top Boys

Not one of the guys gave an overly memorable performance, but Heejun Han received lots of love from J-Lo for his Stevie Wonder song, along with Joshua Ledet and Phillip Phillips (although all his songs seem to sound the same).

The Worst of the Night

Shannon Magrane had the worst performance of the night when she sang I Have Nothing. Jennifer Lopez said that she knows Shannon is capable of singing that song, but her nerves clearly got the best of her.

Elimination

While Shannon did wind up in the bottom three, her popularity saved her from elimination. Elise Testone and Jeremy Rosado faced the judges elimination. In spite of J-Lo's love for Jeremy, she was forced to say goodbye to him.
