Premier League Soccer :: Battle in Manchester

May 01, 2012

OK you soccer fans, with all this talk about the NHL and NBA playoffs, you must feel a bit left out of the loop, so let’s take a look at the Premier League as it is down to only two games left for each team. One of the most popular teams in the world, Manchester United, lost to their arch rivals, Manchester City 0-1 and with the two teams fighting for first place, it looks like Manchester City will finally win their first Premier League title since 1968.

Premier League Lock

It has been an up and down battle for both teams, but with Man City winning this last heads up game against Man U, the baby blue can wrap up the Premier League title by winning their last two games of the year against Newcastle and QPR.

Man United finish their season against Swansea City and Sunderland which should be two easy victories, so if Man City draws or loses one of their games, it’s very possible that Man United could end up winning the title... again… which they pretty much always win! Man United has won the Premier League 12 times.

Rival Record

The rivalry between the two Manchester teams began way back in 1881 and everytime these two teams play, it’s known as the Manchester Derby. United holds a very comfortable record overall with 68 wins 50 draws and only 48 losses.

You probably wouldn’t believe it, but these two teams started out as two local friendly football clubs getting together for just the fun of it. But over 100 years later, these teams are usually found in a heated battle. Nonetheless, it makes for good soccer and it would make perfectly good sense that the only difference between these two clubs is whether you like the color red or blue!
