Pokémon TCG: Dark Explorers Review Part One

May 23, 2012

The much anticipated new Pokémon Booster Set Dark Explorers is now in stores! With the release of EX Pokémon in the previous set, Next Destinies, Pokémon Trainers everywhere have been looking for EX cards to add to their decks. Dark Explorers not only introduces Darkrai EX, a super powerful Dark Pokémon, it also includes a lot of trainer cards that can really help support them!

Darkrai-EX

Darkrai-EX is a powerful card that is a potential game changer. With its Ability giving every Pokémon with a Dark Energy free retreat, it makes it easier to get around Pokémon Catchers and status effects such as Poison and Burn. Furthermore, its attack does 90 damage to the active and 30 damage to one of your opponent’s benched Pokémon, making it a great sniper. This with the trainer Dark Patch, which allows you to attach a Dark Energy from your discard pile to one of your benched Dark Pokémon, you can power up your Darkrai-EX in no time!

Tornadus-EX

Tornadus-EX only needs Colorless Energy Cards to attack, making it a great addition to most decks. Its first attack requires only two Energy Cards, or one Double Colorless Energy Card, to do 30 damage. However, if there is a Stadium card in play, that attack becomes more powerful and can do 60 damage! This means Tornadus-EX can do 60 damage turn one, potentially knocking out your opponent’s starting Pokémon first turn! With its resistance to Fighting Type Attacks, Tornadus-EX is important in countering Terrakions and Groudons.

EX Cards

Besides Darkrai-EX and Tornadus-EX, there are also Raikou-EX, Groudon-EX, Entei-EX, and Kyogre-EX in the Dark Explorers TCG Set. With all these awesome EX cards and a lot of really useful Supporter and Trainer Cards, this set is a must have for all Pokémon Trainers and Collectors out there!
