Will Smith is back as Agent J in the best MIB yet…in 3D! Check out Kidzworlds movie review for Men In Black 3!

By Lynn Barker

When a nutball, serial killer alien goes back to 1969 to kill Agent “K” (Tommy Lee Jones), his partner, MIB Agent “J” (Will Smith) has to time travel back to the swingin’ ‘60’s to save the younger and not-as-cranky “K” (Josh Brolin).

Prison Break

The Men in Black organization (which monitors and polices alien activity on Earth) has its hands full when alien serial killer Boris the Animal escapes from his max security prison on the moon. A long time ago, a young agent “K” put him there and he’s out for serious revenge.

Time Travel Trouble

When Boris travels back to 1969 to kill young “K” before he can catch and put him in prison, it’s up to “J” to get his own time travel device, go back and save him. In one timeline, Boris was successful and everybody on present day Earth thinks “K” was killed by Boris way back in ’69. Nobody gets it when “J” talks about his crusty old partner. “J” has got to be successful and save the young “K” or he’ll not only lose his partner but Boris and his band of greedy aliens will take over our planet!

The “New” Old Partners

Back in 1969, the young “K” is way more fun and less uptight. He and “J” bond and “J” is freaked by all the old-school weaponry, gadgets and giant “portable” phones. Making friends with a friendly alien who can foresee several possible futures, the duo is guided to Cape Canaveral where they manage to save the day and “J” learns a bit about his own past.

Wrapping Up

You might have seen the first two “Men in Black” films on video. If so, this movie will make a lot more sense to you. The new movie seems just as funny as the first film (the second one was a little “iffy” but Frank the talking dog was cute if annoying). This one has more super fun aliens designed and built by make-up guru Rick Baker. CGI critters include a cute yet creepy giant fish that swallows “J”. New gadgets including giant wheel cycles are ridden by “J” and “K”.

Most amazing is Josh Brolin’s dead-on impression of the young agent “K”. He looks sounds and moves just like Tommy Lee Jones. Emma Thompson (Nanny McPhee) is the new boss of MIB and she’s great. The 3D is quite good with a few fun objects coming at you and a lot of color and depth in most scenes. The big showdown fight on a rocket gantry is really exciting.

The filmmakers get congrats for putting some real heart in the story by letting us know what made “K” so cranky and why he recruited “J” (Will) into the Men in Black organization in the first place. You’ll get a warm and fuzzy feeling when you find out a few relationship secrets toward the end of the movie.

For bringing back the film series with a family-friendly, fun and heartfelt bang, let’s give Will and company’s return 4 stars.
